✝️ El Davallament de Pollença 2026 One of Mallorca’s most powerful and visually striking Easter traditions takes place in the heart of Pollença every Good Friday . El Davallament (The Descent from the Cross) is a deeply moving re-enactment of the moment Christ is taken down from the cross – performed high above the town on the iconic Calvari steps . As night falls, the 365 steps are illuminated by torches and candles, creating a dramatic and almost hypnotic scene. In complete silence, participants dressed in traditional robes carefully carry the figure of Christ down the steep staircase, step by step, accompanied only by solemn music and the presence of the crowd. It’s not just a religious act – it’s a moment of collective stillness, emotion, and centuries-old tradition that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who witnesses it. 🕯️ What to expect • 📍 Location: Calvari steps, Pollença • 📅 Date: Divendres Sant (Good Friday) • 🌙 Time: Evening (after sunset – around 9:00pm) • 🔥 Atmosphere: Candlelight, silence, live music ✨ Why it’s special Unlike other processions, El Davallament in Pollença is known for its intensity and setting – the steep descent, the lighting, and the silence create a truly unforgettable experience. It’s widely considered one of the most emblematic Easter events in Mallorca . 💡 Tip: Arrive early – the steps and surrounding streets fill up quickly, and visibility is key to fully experience the descent.
